According to Hayley love is a subject of ridicule, a myth created by hopeless romantics.

When Hayley makes a resolution to declare her loose lifestyle era R.I.P, it’s all good in theory…

That is until she meets Daniel Stark, a well-respected, mid-thirties business man who is known for his short temper, lack of steady relationships as well as his strict preserve of his private life.

Opinionated, sharp tongued Hayley accidently steps into his office leaving Daniel resolved to put Hayley in her place and have her in his bed.

Both Hayley and Daniel can’t avoid the immediate instigation of the attraction between them.

In a unanimously agreed upon verdict by Hayley and her two best friends, Ian the gay self-absorb, aspiring model and Natasha the witty, borderline neurotic soul mate, Daniel Stark is to be Hayley’s pure physical attraction, emotions aside era closure.

Will it indeed be a closure, or a beginning to something neither Hayley nor Daniel ever bargained for…

Author InterviewTell us a bit about Layers?Hayley makes a resolution to declare her loose lifestyle over, a resolution that doesn’t stand a chance when sparks of attraction fly as soon as she meets the Daniel Stark.
When she decides to give in to attraction for the very last time with the blessing of her two best friends, Ian the gay self-absorbed, aspiring model and Natasha the witty, borderline neurotic soul mate, they all agree she should not make it more than it is, not with him.But life has its own course and what you plan is not always what you get.
Both Hayley and Daniel who don’t exactly believe in love or relationships for that matter, find themselves battling inner struggles, trying to stay true to their beliefs while irresistibly being pulled toward each other.   There you go, Layers in a nutshell…
What inspired you to write Layers? To begin with, the characters of Daniel and Hayley have resided in my mind for a very long time, combine that with a love for surfing, tattoos and humor, and it was just likely that the mixture will end up as a book.
Do you have any traits in common with Hayley the protagonist? There are a few similarities, we both lack a mind to mouth filter. Deep inside we both are what you may call a “good girl.” And both of us care dearly for our friends. But I guess there’s where it ends. Hayley is much more brazen and outspoken, and the entire “loose lifestyle” thing she had going on, definitely not my scene.

Name 5 things that people don’t know about you and about the book!About me:
  • I am a non-romantic... that writes romantic books.
  • I’ve lived in five different countries and travelled to more than a few dozen.
  • I am a words nerd, I skim through dictionaries for fun and try to learn a new word a day. Pathetic but true.
  • I add cinnamon to almost everything I cook.
  • I named my new baby Daniel as I fell in love with the name while writing Layers.
 About Layers:
  • I actually got a publishing contract but decided to decline it and self-publish, still hoping I will not have to drown this decision in many intakes of alcohol.
  • Ian’s character is based on a real person.
  • For the first half of the book both Hayley and Tasha had different looks.
  • One of the most intense scenes was written on 4 sick bags as my Laptop’s battery died in the middle of a flight.
  • Snow Patrol’s best songs were played in a loop throughout the writing of the book
Do you write full-time or part-time?
Unfortunately, with a five month old baby aka my new boss, I can’t write full-time. I’d love to though, and hope it will become possible for me in the future.

Any tips on how to get through the dreaded writer’s block?
Take a break. Disconnect for a while, don’t think about it, do something that distracts you and then return to your work. Don’t fight it...
Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
First and foremost with English being my second language and one of a few that I speak, from time to time, I need to make sure that for example a certain idiom I’m using is actually taken from English and not my translation from one of the other languages that I speak.
Another thing, I try to make my stories believable, stay true to real situations and people. As a writer you sometimes tend to take imagination to the next level. I find myself occasionally reassessing the validity of a situation, asking, if I were this character would I really act a certain way, speak in that way.
Do you read much and if so what are your favorite books?Oh, I read, a lot! I think that if you check my kindle for the amount of books I’ve purchased so far, it will imply that I read about a book and a half a week.  I have many favorite books from a variety of genres. The first three that pop to my mind are:Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, The ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series by George R. R. Martin, The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski.
How do you relax?Sparkling, a bottle or two … just kidding, no drinking problem here, yet… anyway. Two things that set me at ease are aimlessly driving by myself with very loud music as company and cooking. If you find 2-3 freshly baked cakes on my kitchen counter, you can without any doubt assume I was a mess not long before.
What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
Who says writers are sane?  Overall, I guess, it’s the ability to write, knowing when to come back to the real world, and mostly, having a very thick skin.
Any more books on the horizon?Yes, actually there are two. First, there’s Inner Core, Layers’ sequel which will examine whether a relationship is strong enough to overcome too many mistakes, differences and… life. The lightness and fun will follow this book as well and there’s much to be expected in terms of character development.
The second project is Leaving Me Behind.  Leaving Me Behind is about a thirty-something successful business woman who leaves her stressful life to pursue serenity and break her too many strict rules in a coastal city in Spain.
When are these books coming?Inner Core is planned to be released at the beginning of 2014. Leaving Me Behind is expected Mid- 2014.

Order of the Seers
Chapter 1: The End

Sunday, June 22, 2008

Liam was losing his patience. “Aw, come on! Are you serious? You can’t
want to ride this thing again!”

Instead of answering her older brother, Lilli remained in her seat as
the Ferris wheel conductor looked on expectantly, hand outstretched and
waiting for another two tokens.

The way Lilli’s skinny arms hugged her book bag while she stared
blankly at the pressed metal floor of their “Fairy Land Caboose” made it
hard for Liam to stay angry. The sight of her looking so dejected softened
him enough to give the conductor his fifth set of tokens in less than 45
minutes. Liam settled back into his seat just as the lap bar clamped down
uncomfortably against his thighs.

“Lilli, say something. Why’d you drag me out here if you were just gonna
sulk? I hate the carnival, you know that.”

“I know something… okay? Just… trust me. We have to stay here.” Her
voice was so low he could barely hear her over the wind-up music that was
blaring from the overhead speakers.

“Did Mom say something to you?”

Lilli responded to his question with silence and a barely discernable
shake of her head back and forth. He tried again.

“Lilli! Did Mom…?”

“Yes,” she snapped.

They both fell silent again as Liam took in the latest weird thing of the
day. Lilith Knight, or Lilli as she preferred to be called, had always been
strange. Even when she was five, she could beat Liam at chess lazily, without
even thinking about it. She would find things and give them to you before
you asked for them. Before you, or even she, knew why. Up until recently,
he thought she was just a freak. No biggie. All little sisters are like that, he told

It was only in the past few months that his perception of her began
to shift, after her prediction that he would catch his new girlfriend, Krista,
kissing his teammate Lance in the locker room after their championship
game. At the time, he’d brushed off her premonition as meddling. Krista
wasn’t even his girlfriend and his team was 1-1 with the whole basketball
season ahead of them.

He’d forgotten her warning completely until two months later when he
ran back into the locker room after winning the championship to get the
jacket he’d left behind and immediately smelled Krista’s perfume. When he
found them, two thoughts overshadowed the scene unfolding in front of
him. The first was that what they were doing wasn’t really “kissing,” though
he could see how a sheltered thirteen-year-old would describe it that way.
His second thought was that Lilli was right; she was exactly right. He was so
stunned by Lilli’s accuracy that he didn’t even bother to disturb them, leaving
his new ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend to their business. From that
moment, Liam understood that Lilli wasn’t just a freak, or more accurately,
that she wasn’t a freak at all. She was special…gifted.

The sound of Lilli’s sniffling followed by the trembling of her body
as she began to cry uncontrollably broke the long silence that had fallen
between them. What the…, Liam half-mumbled as his mind swung from
irritation to absolute bewilderment. Slowly and deliberately, Liam moved his
palms down the front of his face as he fought the urge to shake the truth
right out of her and end whatever this was. But he couldn’t. She’s so brittle
already, he thought, without any idea as to why. So instead, he reached out
to envelop his sister in his arms, trying to soothe her and comfort her from
some unknown force.

“Lilli, it’s all right. I’m sorry, okay? Don’t cry. Just… tell me what’s going
on. Why are we here?”

About Author

My name is Cerece Rennie Murphy, but, among my 5 siblings, I am known and teased by my superhero name, Wonder Worry, (and yes, I am a little worried about your reaction to what I just said). While in my youth, I used my superpower to whip minor setbacks into epic tragedies in 60 seconds flat, I no longer have the time to hone the skills I once possessed, which were handed down to me VERY CAREFULLY by my mother and her mother before.

Instead of spending my days imagining worst case scenarios, I am now on the front lines of true disaster prevention – treading the fine line between boo-boos and permanent brain damage, fighting crimes of curiosity, omission, absent-mindedness and sleep deprivation. I carry others down the winding, bumpy road of youth that starts out at the nexus of unique and brilliant but intersects with narcissistic serial killer at some distant point I hope fervently to avoid. As you might have guessed, I am a wife and mother of 2 small children. Luckily, my family lights up the sky so I never stumble too hard or lose my way.

I would lament the luxury of needless worry, but alas, I don’t have the energy. As I write this, I am losing a battle fought between my trusty sponge and a hardened glob of half-eaten cheese that traveled from the kitchen to the living room rug in the palm of a very small, but mischievous hand. Its stronghold on the fibers suggests occupancy of at least 2 days, but I’ll never know for sure. Rather than despair, I’ve chosen to retreat to my keyboard, noting that I have won the war - most of the rug is un-cheesed.

Before I worried. Now, I write.

I look forward to slowly, quietly, in my own shy way, becoming a part of this community. If you would like to get to know me and my work a bit better, you can visit me...

Guest Post! An Incurable Insanity - Simi K Rao

Welcome to The Exotic Tour...

We offer flowers in traditional welcome.
You are our honored guest...

About Book

An Incurable InsanityAn Incurable Insanity
by Simi K Rao
Paperback, eBook, 376 pages
Published October 8, 2013 by Tate Publishing

Her heart fluttered when she heard the sound of the key turn in the lock. She quickly adjusted her maroon silk sari with the yellow border, the one that had caught his eye, and waited eagerly for his footsteps.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven... Yes, exactly seven steps before he stopped, hesitated for a few moments, then removed his shoes one by one and arranged them neatly side by side on the shoe rack.

She smiled. He had been mindful of taking his shoes off every day now. "I am not used to it, but I will if you want me to. It's probably a good thing to do anyway."

As he settled down, he would pick up the TV remote and, without looking at her, would say in his smooth baritone, "So how did you spend your day, anything interesting?"

Shaan Ahuja found himself bowing to tradition and agreeing to an arranged marriage to the beautiful Ruhi Sharma. He went through the motions but had no intention of carrying through on his vows. His last foray into matters of the heart with an American girl had left him scarred and unwilling to try again. Thoroughly disillusioned and disgruntled he wasted no time in making his intentions clear to Ruhi on their wedding night. But, he was completely unprepared for what his new wife had in mind.

Mel says, ‘I bought this around 11:00 on a Wednesday evening and finished it at 4 am the next day! Once I fell in love with the main character, Ruhi, I couldn’t put it down until I knew how it ended….’

Kelley says, ‘I loved the relationship between the characters, Ruhi and Shaan, and really felt that this book pulled you onto the emotional roller coaster that these two were on as they began their arranged marriage. In addition, the author provided unique insight into the custom of arranged marriages and the Indian culture. She did an excellent job of getting your interest from the beginning and keeping it throughout the book… ‘

Priyasree says, ‘what do I say??? the title “An Incurable Insanity” says it all. Right from the beginning when u start reading, U will fall in love with the characters Shaan and Ruhi, and U will be hooked…’

Deepali says, ‘The author has done a splendid job of developing and portraying the feeling of the characters. she was also successfull in providing an insight in the indian culture.’

About Author

Simi K. Rao was born in India and has been living in the United States for several years. The inspiration for An Incurable Insanity came from what she has seen transpire among and within the immigrant community. Some of the experiences included are her own; some have been garnered from friends and casual conversations with acquaintances...

Simi K. Rao
I am a physician–and to many I may appear serious and solitary. But once people get to know me better, they often think that I am frank, down to earth, with quite a quirky sense of humor. And that is what I bring to my writing—read and you shall see.

I was born in the dead center of India, but had the privilege of spending time both in the north and south. Therefore I have been able to sample and absorb to some extent the vastly diverse cultures and languages of both these regions (the very quality that imparts tremendous richness to our country’s heritage,) —a phenomenon perhaps not seen anywhere else in the world.

After immigrating to the United States in my early twenties and spending several years in this country, whenever I travel back to my homeland now, I find that I appreciate my roots a lot more. Still there is so much to see and learn, that a lifetime won’t suffice.

An Ideal Marriage
If husband and wife respect the independence of one another, then boundaries and rules become extinct. Just like agreement or acceptance is the body of a relationship, isn’t independence the soul or aatma?

How to be An Ideal husband (From the Mahabharath- ancient Hindu scripture)
Cherish your wife as a blessing sent to you from heaven; let the kindness of your behavior endear you to her heart. She is the mistress of your house; treat her therefore with respect, that your servants may obey her. Do not oppose her inclination without cause; she is the partner of your cares, make her also the companion of your pleasures.Reprove her faults with gentleness; do not exact her obedience with rigor.Trust your secrets in her breast; her counsels are sincere; you shall not be deceived.Be faithful to her bed; for she is the mother of your children.

“I bet you are one of the most beautiful brides in the world, but I’m sorry I cannot make love to you. There is someone else.”- An Incurable Insanity

Marriage is all about building trust and so is my book. When Shaan bluntly dismisses Ruhi on their wedding night, he leaves her feeling betrayed and disillusioned.
When something like this transpires it is very difficult to regain the trust, despite one’s best intentions which leads to doubt, misunderstanding and emotional upheaval.
Will Ruhi come to terms with Shaan's rejection and agree to an amicable separation? To find out more follow the Exotic tour and read An Incurable Insanity.

Book Blast! A Light in Dark Places - Jennifer Graves & Emily Clawson

light in dark
goodreads info

About Book

A Light in Dark Places
In December, 2009, Susan Cox Powell was reported missing from her home in West Valley City, Utah. As law enforcement tried to piece together what had happened to Susan, her husband, Josh Powell, became the only person of interest in the case. For Jennifer Graves, Josh’s sister, the nightmare started long before Susan’s disappearance. From her experiences growing up in the Powell family to the terrifying moment when she first started to believe her brother was a killer, she relied on her faith to stay strong. She devoted herself to the safety of Susan’s boys, Charlie and Braden, whom she hoped to be able to raise as her own. When the boys were murdered by their father in February, 2012, Jennifer was more than devastated, but she had to believe there was a reason for it all—including the deaths of her beloved nephews. In A Light In Dark Places, Jennifer shares her struggles and her triumphs. In coming to terms with such tragedy she finally was able to embrace the truth that we all have the power to choose our own path—and there is always hope, no matter how dark things may seem.

Praise for A Light in Dark Places
I just finished reading "A Light in Dark Places" By Jennifer Graves and Emily Gray Clawson. I was impressed with how well written the book was. The descriptions are such that I felt I was part of the story. I was grateful that the message was one of hope and peace in tragedy. The book does tell the tale of Susan Powell, her boys and their demise but doesn't dwell on it. It was nice to see inside the life experiences of someone so close to them and to see things from Jennifer's perspective rather than what you see on the media. I highly recommend this book. It doesn't disappoint!
~T. Hyde

I love true accounts of people overcoming challenges and helping others with the lessons learned from them. This story of Jennifer's experiences throughout her abusive childhood, and later the disappearance of Susan and the murder of her two sweet nephews is just that. She shares how she felt God's hand in her life, guiding her to make better choices than the rest of her family did. Though the book had so many sad details, it ended with hope, courage and love.
 ~D. Raymond

I had followed the story of Susan Powell very closely so I wasn't sure if the book was going to tell me something I didn't already know...but it sure did. Jennifer was very brave in writing this book and all she had done in support for Susan. I highly recommend the book it sheds a light on the whole situation that helps make things more clear.
 ~ Carolyn

This was a very informative read. I lived in Utah at the time of Susan's disappearance and followed the news every day. This book answered many questions that the news did not. Although it was very sad and I already knew the outcome it was a good read. I admire Jennifer for her part in the whole story and I am glad she had the fortitude to write this book to honor her sister in law.
 ~Katie O.

To finally read about details that were never shared brought closure for me about this insidious crime. While the book was an easy read, the message shared about breaking the cycle of abusive relationships is invaluable. It truly does take someone removing themselves from their abusive family's presence to stop the cycle. Praises to the author for sharing her perspectives.

About Book

Pride And Prep School (Snark And Circumstance #3)
Author: Stephanie Wardrop
Publication date: October 15, 2013
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.

Georgia can’t figure out why the burden of a Y chromosome seems to make guys so hard to understand. First, there’s the handsome but slippery Jeremy Wrentham. After Georgia shared some pretty devastating kisses with him, she found her way home and he found her sister!
And then there’s Michael Endicott, who never fails to let her know that her family’s quirkiness lies too far outside the pale for this preppie townie. But if he really feels that way, why is he in Georgia’s kitchen, asking her out? And why don’t boys come with instruction manuals?

other books in the series

About Author

Stephanie Wardrop grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania where she started writing stories when she ran out of books to read. She’s always wanted to be a writer, except during the brief period of her childhood in which piracy seemed like the most enticing career option—and if she had known then that there actually were “girl” pirates way back when, things might have turned out very differently. She currently teaches writing and literature at Western New England University  and lives in a town not unlike the setting of Snark and Circumstance with her husband, two kids, and five cats. With a book out—finally—she might be hitting the high seas any day now.

Author Interview

What inspire you to write the book/series?
I wanted to get back into writing, which I hadn’t done since I began graduate school, and I knew I was really rusty.  So I thought that if I modeled my book on another one, that would help me with organization and plotting.  What better inspiration than Jane Austen, right, though I have to convince I was not a huge fan the first time I read Pride and Prejudice. (That’s why I think if you don’t like a book, give it a few years and try again – it might speak to you now in a way it didn’t before). Plus, I had just moved to a very preppy New England town and felt like a real fish out of water, so a lot of what Georgia is going through is an exaggerated version of how I felt when I moved to New England.

What is your biggest obstacle when write?
Finding the time to do it! I teach at a college and that takes a lot of my time, plus I have two kids, so there are always demands on what could otherwise be writing time. I have lots of ideas and I am always scrambling for a scrap of paper to write them down in my car or in the grocery store or wherever they hit me so I don’t lose them.  But then I tend to lose the scraps of paper so it doesn’t always work.  Writing requires some sustained quiet, uninterrupted time, and that’s hard to come by.

Aside from the main character, is there any character you secretly fond of from this series?
I would hang out with Dave and Gary and the punk band, which would be weird because I am way too old to do that and it would actually be creepy.  But if I were in high school, they are whom I would want to hang out with.

Tell us about your next project?
In fits and spurts I’m working on a book about a four-hundred-year-old witch trapped in the body of a high school student. She’s lonely and sick of hiding who she is but she meets a guy who reminds her a lot of the love of her life whom she hasn’t seen since she had to escape witch hunters in Scotland in the early 1590s . . . It’s kind of The Crucible meets Braveheart meets The Big Bang Theory.

Define a perfect day for you?
I go for a long walk and then write for hours, drinking iced tea and listening to really good music.  Then I get to hang out with my family or friends - and if we can do any of these things on or near a beach then it’s even better.

Any suggestion on aspiring writers out there?
Write! Just do it.  Don’t worry about word count or if it’s any good or what anyone will think of it.  Just write for yourself and write what makes you intrigued and want to keep going. Sooner or later you will come up with something that speaks to others as well as you.
